Chevron Nail Art with Video Tutorial

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a great day! My Tuesday is going pretty great so far. I did a lot of adulting today. Which means I was on the phone all day dealing with tax and insurance things. Sounds fun right? Now that I'm done with all of that I can share this fun little chevron nail art design with you! 

I always love chevron designs but I always have a hard time hand painting them. I feel like they get super wonky or all the lines are completely different sizes or going in different directions. However, this time I feel like I did a pretty good job! The lines are thin and for the most part look the same! YAY! SUCCESS! "But Sam, why don't you just use nail vinyls? They're so easy!" They are, but I really don't like the idea of using nail vinyls for nail art. I totally understand why people use them and they're awesome, but I like the challenge of hand painting things. Plus, not everyone has the money to buy them. (Ahem, me. I'm a broke 23 year old fumbling around learning how to be an adult.) I don't like paying for things I'm going to use once and then immediately throw out. I'm not saying I would never use them, but meh... Not my thing. Orly Fowl Play

Here's a gorgeous fall color for you! This beauty is Orly Fowl Play. All the pictures are three coats with no top coat. You can definitely get away with two coats, but a a third really helps it pop! This polish was part of the Fall 2011 Birds of a Feather collection. This was pretty difficult to capture on camera. If I captured one aspect of the polish, I lost the other. It's one of those polishes that you really need to see in person in order to fully understand and enjoy.

Where do I even begin to describe this polish? It's a dark purple plum base and it's a little bit on the jelly side. I wouldn't say it's a true jelly, but it's really hard to tell from all the stuff it's jam packed with! It also has super fine micro silver glitter and slightly larger blue glitter. On top of that it also has orange flakies in it! I tried to experiment with them to see if they changed color and I could sometimes get them to turn green, but it was really difficult. It's safe to say that they are definitely more orange, but in the right light don't be surprised when you see a flash of green really quick.

The application for Fowl Play is pretty good considering all of it's contents. I applied it with a medium layer each time. I found that if I applied really thin coats it got clumpy and pulled the flakes and glitter with the brush. Other than the pulling of flakes and glitter I really didn't have a problem with it.

Like I said previously, this color is perfect for fall and even though it was released in last years collection I still think it will be a popular choice this year as well. If you don't already have it and are thinking of purchasing it... Do it! It's a pretty unique polish and it would make a good home in your collection. I'm sorry for fueling your polish addiction! ;)

Orly Oh Cabana Boy

Good evening everyone! Or good morning, or afternoon, or you know... Whenever you're reading this. I have one of my favorite polishes to show you! This is Orly Oh Cabana Boy. This is honestly one of my favorite pinks. It's a gorgeous blue toned pink with subtle (but very noticeable) shimmer!

I have two fairly thin coats on in all of these pictures and I don't have top coat on it. I like to show the natural polish finish instead of covering it with top coat because some people (like me) like to see how the polish looks when it dries on it's own.

Some people consider this a neon. I personally don't consider it a neon, but it is a nice bright pink! When people ask me what bright pink polish I would recommend, this is usually one of my answers. Especially if they want a shimmer.

I love the formula of this polish! It's not too thick and not too thin. It is a tiny bit on the sheer side, but as you can see two coats clearly gave full coverage and I did pretty thin coats. I would recommend 3 coats if the whites of your nails are really white. It also dries pretty quickly which is a WIN!

*drool* Look at that shimmer! It's so gorgeous! How can you not love this color? In my opinion it's perfect!
