Hello everyone! I hope you're having a lovely Tuesday! The other day my sister brought me some make up sponges that she had laying around that she never uses and I couldn't help but give a gradient or two a try. I've done gradients before, but I've never used an actual makeup sponge. I've only ever used a kitchen sponge that has huge holes in it. They aren't good for smooth transitioned gradients. I posted a photo of this pink gradient that I tried on my Instagram and everyone seemed to like it so I decided I would share it here on my blog as well even though it was just practice!
I started with a base of China Glaze Something Sweet. That was the lightest color in my gradient and that's why I used it as the base. Some people like to use white, but either way will usually work. Then I took one of the makeup sponges and applied three lines of polish. The lightest color was Something Sweet, the middle color is China Glaze Dance Baby, and the darkest color is China Glaze Escaping Reality. I overlapped the colors slightly on the sponge so that they would blend together a little, but I still got some distinct color lines between the different pinks. I used Out The Door as my top coat.
One of my Instagram followers gave me a tip to wet my sponge before I do a gradient and another follower told me to move the sponge in small circles. I'll have to give those a try and maybe even think of some new ways that will help get the gradient completely smooth.
I also think I will try The Nailasauras' gradient tutorial technique. She places the polish down on a piece of plastic or foil and swirls the different colors together before putting it on the sponge. You can view her tutorial for gradient nails HERE.
I think my first attempt with an actual makeup sponge was pretty successful! I still think there is definite room for improvement though. I did a different color gradient on my opposite hand and I will be posting that here on the blog eventually.
Are you guys a fan of gradients? I love them!
Polishes Used:
I love gradients!! I tried the wet sponge methkd and it worked really good for me. I also kind of zig zag the sponge as I do the gradient. To me this helps reduce the look of the line.
ReplyDeletepink + gradient, what else could anyone ask for?
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty! I looooove gradients, especially light and pretty ones like this :)
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE fan of gradients, but I'm too afraid to try it! Haha...I think I'm going to have to take the plunge and just try it!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely give it a try! :)
ReplyDeleteI've gotta try this again! The first time came out really crappy for me. The second time seemed to be better but I didn't have the right combo of colours so you couldn't see the gradient so well.
