China Glaze Apocalypse of Color Collection Swatches and Review

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! This post is for everyone who refuses to let Halloween go. It's my favorite holiday and I honestly wish it lasted all year long. I've also been seeing a lot of Christmas/other winter holiday related nail art posts, so this might be a refreshing throwback twist for some of you. Especially since most of you have probably already seen this collection. However, if you think about it... The colors aren't far off from all the holiday collections. Red, green, goldish... 

This is China Glaze's Apocalypse of Color collection. It was the Halloween collection for 2014 and it's a 6 piece collection. That is, if you count the glowing polish they release with every single Halloween collection.

Rest In Pieces is a clear based glitter polish. This has black, gold, and gold holographic glitter in it. There are different sized hex glitters in both colors and then there are bar glitters in only the golden color. I see pretty large black hex glitters in the mix, but they're extremely hard to get out and there aren't many of them at all. The gold definitely dominates the black in this mix. It applies decently. It's better than other glitter polishes I've applied. It can be a little bit base heavy, and the glitters need to be moved around slightly, but overall it's not too bad. I have one coat over China Glaze's Don't Get Derailed. I prefer this glitter polish with a matte top coat because it really allows the different glitter to stand out. The first two photos have a coat of Out The Door top coat. The second two photos have a coat of Butter London's Matte Finish top coat.

Getting To Gnaw You is a black based polish with coppery/bronze glitter. I love this one! It applies really well after two coats. The first coat is pretty streaky and it's best to have a light hand and float the brush across your nail when applying it. The second coat covers up any imperfections and you don't have to be gentle when applying it. This one dries with a little bit of a texture and it looks pretty neat, but I think this one is a million times better with a shiny top coat! It's SO gorgeous. I have two coats on in the photos below with a coat of Out The Door.

I Love Your Guts is a reddish pink metallic based polish with black micro glitter. This polish is so borderline red and pink that it's honestly hard to decide which one it is. I personally think it's red, while others swear it's pink. So it's up to you. This can easily be a one coat polish if you work really quickly, and don't go over the same spot too many times. With that being said, it can be a little difficult to do that because it dries SOOOO fast. It was getting thick on the brush and in the bottle while I was applying it. Make sure you close the bottle very tightly when you're finished. This one dries to an awesome matte, slightly textured finish. If you like that, cool. Keep it that way. For those of you who hate that.. Good news! It looks absolutely awesome with a shiny top coat too! I have two coats on in the photos below. The first two photos are of the natural finish and the second two have a coat of Out The Door.

Don't Let The Dead Bite is a sheer nude base with metallic red hex and bar glitter. Hold up bar glitter haters... I know what you're thinking, "EWWWW! BAR GLITTER!" Don't worry, they're ridiculously tiny and unless you hold your hand to your face, you'll barely notice. I think this is supposed to look like blood splatter... or some really weird skin disease. Either way, it's different and I love it! The sheer nude base may not be for everyone, so it might be best if you layer it over a more opaque nude, but I actually like the sheerness it has. It's really easy to apply and the glitter stays pretty well where you put it. It does need to be moved around a tiny bit, but nothing major. I have two coats in the photos below with a coat of Out The Door.

But Of Corpse is a metallic green base with black micro glitters. The application and finish for this one is absolutely identical to I Love Your Guts, so see above for that. I have two coats in the photos below. The first two are the original finish and the second two are with a coat of Out The Door.

Ghoulish Glow is a glow in the dark topper that gives any polish you put it over a milky looking finish as well as a glow when it's in the dark. I'm not a fan of this one at all. It's disgustingly stinky due to the glowing material and it really doesn't glow that well. It doesn't matter how many coats I have one, it just doesn't glow bright enough for me. It glows great in the bottle, but on the nails? Nah... I have two coats on below over China Glaze's Release. Any more than two and it starts to look gross and gets too thick for my liking.

Overall, I really love this collection! With the exception of Ghoulish Glow of course. I think it's different, but the polishes are also versatile enough to use all year long. I love the different finishes and the combinations of glitter. If you guys want to see how they actually apply then please feel free to watch the video below this!
